The official HELPER record describes a continuous washing system for large quantities of vegetables such as cabbage and potatoes. The first stage combines upper spray with lower bubbling. Water movement separates loose soil and foreign matter while floating material travels with the surface flow. An adjustable chain-belt conveyor stabilizes transport and changes residence time.

A second vortex stage creates spiral water movement intended to turn ingredients through a wider cleaning path. The page describes 360-degree tumbling without product damage, but damage performance must be confirmed with the actual produce. Define the wash around contamination and product quality

Start with produce type, whole or cut condition, incoming temperature, maximum dimensions, bulk density and hourly flow. Document the expected soil, leaves, insects, hair, stones and other contamination. Then define acceptable residual soil, product damage, water carryover and cross-contamination risk. Root vegetables may need stronger agitation or upstream brushing; delicate leaves require gentler handling and controlled dwell time.

Utilities must cover potable-water quality, make-up flow, recirculation, drainage, electrical supply and any heating or chemical-control requirement. The floor plan needs access around tanks, pumps, filters and conveyors. Drain capacity must handle dumping and cleaning without pooling. A hygienic design review should verify access to submerged surfaces, pipework, corners, filter cages and belt returns, along with safe lockout for pumps, conveyors and vibration equipment.

For factory acceptance, weigh feed and acceptable output over a defined period. Measure residual contamination using an agreed sampling method; record damaged produce, product loss, water consumption, filter loading and discharge moisture. Test minimum and maximum conveyor speeds. Introduce a representative impurity challenge only through an agreed safe protocol.
