Steam Consumption Estimator

Estimate preliminary steam consumption for continuous food heating before detailed boiler and utility design.

Estimate continuous process steam demand

Calculate the thermal duty and approximate steam mass needed to heat a continuous food-product flow. The result is useful for preliminary boiler and utility discussions.

Who should use this estimator?

Thermal-process buyers

Prepare utility data for cookers, blanchers and jacketed heating systems.

Factory engineers

Screen boiler capacity before a detailed heat and condensate balance.

Production planners

Compare the steam effect of throughput, temperature rise and process efficiency.

Steam kg/h = product heat duty / efficiency / useful heat per kg of steam

Loads not included automatically

Equipment warm-up

Cold vessels, piping and water can create a large startup peak above continuous demand.

Process losses

Uninsulated surfaces, venting, flash steam and condensate handling require project-specific review.

Other users

Sanitation, hot water, smokehouses and simultaneous equipment must be included in total boiler load.

Steam consumption FAQ

Is this the required boiler size?

No. Boiler sizing must include all simultaneous users, startup peaks, distribution losses and reserve capacity.

What does useful steam heat mean?

It is the usable heat released by each kilogram of steam under the selected supply and condensate conditions.

Can this calculate direct steam injection?

Not fully. Direct injection also changes product mass and moisture and needs a process mass balance.
